A Ph.D. in Law is a multi-faceted and in-depth study of legal systems and its application to businesses and academia. By obtaining this degree of advanced legal education, students are equipped with critical thinking and analytical skills that can be beneficial in managing business proceedings and in legal research.
The three-year Ph.D. in Law programme offered by the Department of Law focuses on the study of Legal Research and Method, and Legal Theory and Present Day perspectives on law. The coursework includes fieldwork, seminars, review of research papers, etc. Furthermore, the programme culminates with the submission of a dissertation that includes an original research component.
Studying for a doctorate degree in Law allows students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the law, its applications and implications, as well as its development over time. This degree of advanced legal education also equips students with the technical and communication skills necessary for legal positions, such as lawyers and judges. Additionally, this degree provides students with the research skills required to develop effective solutions in their respective legal fields.

Admission to the Ph.D Programme would be through an entrance exam. Those who have qualified UGC/CSIR(JRF) examination/SLET/GATE examination or have M.Phil degree will be exempted from the entrance examination.
