ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Physics is one of the prominent natural sciences. It studies matter and its fundamental constituents. It also focuses on the motion of matter and its behaviour through space and time, and the related aspects of energy and force.

This subject is based on the theory that the physical laws of matter, energy and the fundamental forces of nature influence the interaction between particles and physical entities, such as molecules, atoms and the subatomic particles. Physics intersects with areas such as mechanical engineering, aerospace science, etc. and generates knowledge needed for future technological advances. It is research in Physics that has given human beings the understanding of areas such as differential geometry, special theory of relativity, and space-time.

The three-year Bachelor of Science in Physics (Honours) programme offered by the Department of Applied Science & Humanities covers modules aligned with basic mathematics and basic physics such as mechanics, electromagnetism, wave physics, thermal physics and quantum physics. The programme also helps students to explore and immerse themselves in the newly developing and useful areas of nanotechnology, superconductivity, and fibre optics. This programme has a balanced inclusion of theoretical classes, lab work, research component and visits to the companies that are working in areas related with Physics such as aeronautics, geophysics, and astronomy.

Students also gain internships and develop practical skills that help them get suitable jobs in the future. Seminars, workshops and project work form important parts of the programme structure. Experimentation in specialized labs particularly suited to studying matter and force give the ideal research environment to students for innovation.

Program Educational Objectives

This program acts as a specialized degree and helps to develop critical, analytical and problem solving skills at first level. This specialized degree makes the graduates employable in scientific organizations and also to assume expert administrative positions in various types of organizations. Further acquisition of higher level degrees will help the graduates to pursue a career in academics or scientific organizations as a researcher.

The Program Educational Objectives are to prepare the students to:

PEO-1

Work independently or in a team with engineering, medical, ICT professionals and scientists in scientific problem solving.

PEO-2

Act as expert administrators in public, private and government organizations or business administrators with further training and education.

PEO-3

Pursue masters and doctoral research degrees to work in colleges, universities as professors or as scientists in research establishments.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)

After undergoing this programme, a student will be able to exhibit the following:

(PSO-1)

To gain competence in applying principles of physics to understand and communicate introductory and advanced perspectives of scientific phenomenon in the classical domain or quantum domain as are applicable.

(PSO-2)

To use experimental techniques learnt in tandem with theory for deeper understanding problems in physics.

(PSO-3)

To understand and effectively communicate the pertinent aspects of physics associated with relevant natural phenomena in hand.

(PSO-4)

To become lifelong learners to impart their scientific knowledge to adapt according to the changing needs of society.
